“A opportunity of this kind comes rarely and even more uncommon is it that the public whose grasp the levers of change,” Mamdani stated.
Rejecting suggestions to lower expectations, the mayor declared: “I will do no such thing. The only expectation I seek to reset is that of limited ambitions. Beginning today we will govern boldly and broadly.”
Mamdani did not shy away from his core beliefs. “I was elected as a socialist leader and I will govern as one. I will not forsake my ideals for fear of being called radical,” he said to rapturous applause.
