Van de Ven Brace Ends The Toffees' Run at Brand New Stadium

The Tottenham defender scored twice as Tottenham extended their winning streak on the road in the Premier League and delivered the Toffees their first defeat at their new home.

The Toffees were undefeated in their last five matches at their recently opened stadium at the dockside location, having departed Goodison Park behind after 133 years at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

But Spurs captain Van de Ven pounced on two occasions from corners in the first half to place their strong form at jeopardy, and they were failed to mount a comeback before Pape Matar Sarr - set up by former Toffees attacker the Brazilian - headed home a final goal to put the game to bed.

The Everton defender thought he had equalized the tally a short while after the defender's first goal, directing a bullet header past the Spurs keeper from an Everton corner.

Beto, meanwhile, missed a number of chances, while Vicario made a succession of excellent saves to ensure Tottenham went five away games unbeaten in the English top flight.

But the video assistant referee intervened, instructing Craig Pawson to check the goal on the pitchside monitor and the official ruled that the winger and Iliman Ndiaye were in an illegal position and had impeded with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

The win elevates Thomas Frank's team up to third in the division, five points off local foes and table-toppers Arsenal.

Everton remain 14th and are six points ahead of the relegation zone.

Spurs breakdown: Van de Ven fulfils duties at each end of the field

After a drab midweek display in the Champions League against the French side, where they managed a mere attempts on goal, Frank chose Randal Kolo Muani in attack instead of ex-Everton forward Richarlison.

The summer signing was failed to influence the game before being substituted for the substitute after an hour on the pitch, but it turns out he proved unnecessary in the final outcome.

Centre-back the Dutchman transformed into an attacking force to be reckoned with.

Spurs' opening strike came from a well-worked set-piece play, with the midfielder directing the ball back across the face of goal for an unmarked Van de Ven to head home.

The Dutchman was equally outstanding in defensive duties, combining well with his defensive colleague as the duo dealt excellently with the 34 crosses thrown their way by Everton.

Toffees breakdown: Toffees lacking finishing touch

The club's recent stadium had been a happy hunting ground, but it seems the freshness may have worn off somewhat and supporters flocked to the gates after the midfielder's third for Tottenham.

The break in the team's winning streak at home will not be a major concern for David Moyes, but their attacking woes will be.

Beto and Thierno Barry - the Everton's two recognised centre-forwards - had scored only one league goal combined before the weekend's outing.

And they were unable to contribute to that poor tally on a damp and dreary night on in Liverpool.

Beto's performance was epitomized when he opted to overhead kick a clear chance from close range, despite having room and opportunity to readjust for a more conventional shot that would have tested Vicario.

The substitute, as well, was unable to make an impact after replacing Beto in the second half.

It wasn't for a shortage of chance. Most of Everton's offensive moves came through the winger and the forward, who tirelessly whipped threatening balls into the Tottenham box.

Everton: Moyes' men travel to Sunderland in the Premier League on early November at 8 PM.
