Triple National Basketball Association MVP Nikola Jokic sustained a "gut-wrenching" injury to his knee when the Nuggets lost 147-123 to the Heat.
The star player sustained the injury in the latter stages of the opening half in an unintentional collision with team-mate Jones.
The other player stepped on the foot of the MVP, who instantly fell to the court clutching his leg.
The star, that tops the league this season in boards and dimes, had 21 points and eight dimes in the matchup prior to suffering the injury.
He is scheduled for an MRI on Tuesday to assess the seriousness of the injury.
"Immediately, he realized something was wrong," said Nuggets coach Adelman.
"Injuries are part of the game. Anyone who gets hurt, it's gut-wrenching, especially somebody as talented as he is. We'll find out more on Tuesday."
"We'll move on as a team. Obviously, right now, I'm more worried primarily about Jokic as a person and the frustration of experiencing an event of that nature."
