TikTok Grants The Community Control to Reduce AI-Generated Content in Personal Streams

The platform is rolling out a new feature that enables them to lessen the volume of artificial intelligence-produced media appearing in their streams. This move comes as the company disclosed that it presently contains over 1 bn AI-generated clips.

Pilot Phase and Launch

The new functionality is in a pilot phase over the coming weeks before a global launch. This advancement comes amid a rise in AI content, fueled by recent content generation software.

AI Content on Other Platforms

Studies have shown that nearly one in 10 of the fastest-growing content creators on a popular video site primarily display content made by AI. A considerable share of this output is considered mass-produced AI material, a term for inferior, factory-style content that is frequently absurd or dreamlike.

“We know from our community that a lot of users appreciate content produced via AI tools, ranging from digital art to educational videos, and we intend to offer the community the option to see more or less of that, according to their own choices,” commented a spokesperson.

Scale of AI Content

The platform announced that there are currently over a billion videos on its service identified as AI-generated. In total, more than 100 million pieces of content are submitted to the platform every day, making AI content a minor part of its overall inventory.

User Control Features

Members will be able to reduce or increase the amount of AI content they view by using the content preference setting in the application and picking AI-made media. Other topics that currently be modified under the tool cover news, fashion, cosmetics, and movement.

Content Labeling and Policies

TikTok’s policies oblige creators to tag lifelike AI-made content, and it forbids malicious deepfakes of public figures or crisis events. Any realistic AI video that is unmarked can be deleted under its terms of service.

Additionally, the service will from now on add an artificially created label to content created with its own AI tools, or flagged by an industry-wide initiative for spotting AI-generated material. This measure is aimed to deter users from attempting to evade the labeling process.

Responsible AI Funding

The platform is also establishing a two million dollar AI literacy fund for specialists and organizations to produce learning resources about ethical AI use. This initiative will support charitable organizations specializing in training programming and robotics.

Platform Protection

TikTok has defended its safety measures, during debate over proposals to make redundant numerous content moderators in Britain. TikTok is planning to reduce 439 jobs in its user protection division in the UK capital, with worker representatives and online safety experts voicing alarm that people are being substituted by AI moderation.

A company official clarified that staff-based oversight would continue to be important, but AI can shield workers by eliminating the most harmful content before it gets reviewed by staff. TikTok reported a significant reduction in explicit and harmful content reviewed by human moderators over the last 12 months due to intervention by its machine learning processes.

“We think that it’s essential to integrate people and machines to ensure user safety,” the executive stated. “We’ll have staff as involved in the system, but we further consider it’s extremely critical to minimize viewing of dangerous material as quickly as possible, which is the area in which a significant AI assistance is proving valuable work at speed.”
