The German coach, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, indicated that returning someday is a possibility. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful nine-season tenure that included a European Cup triumph and the Redsâ first league title since 1990, now holds roles as head of global soccer with the Red Bull group and as an advisor with the German Football League.
Liverpool won England's top flight in the previous campaign, though countless followers holding him in high esteem would welcome the notion of his potential comeback. During an extensive chat, he shared with the podcast host: âI stated I will never coach a different club within the country. Therefore in case it's my former club...yeah. Theoretically itâs possible.â
âBeing 58, that means the choice could be mine in a few years, it's uncertain. Must I choose now? Then I will not coach again. But thank God, I donât have to do that. I'll wait and observe what the future brings.â
Questioned regarding which situations would have to unfold to draw him back to the dugout, he confessed he feels no immediate pull to such a return. âI'm not entirely sure, I enjoy my current role,â he commented. âI don't crave being a coach; No desire to be under bad weather for lengthy sessions; I donât miss going to interviews multiple times weekly or constant media duties each week.
âThe locker room isn't missed per se, yet sharing a meal with the team talking freely, thatâs nice. With many victories meaning regularly great spirits at the club. I still have Van Dijk's laughter in my ear to illustrate.â
He commended regarding Arne Slot, crediting him for the tweaks that won the league last term. The team has suffered four in a row in all competitions following significant transfers, yet he dismissed the idea that it might signal a slump.
â[Liverpool have] an incredible striker such as Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if spoken against. Heâs an incredible talent. [Hugo] Ekitike, superb talent. They have a strong balanced team. You donât have to worry about Liverpool, they'll bounce back.â
Klopp also spoke emotionally about the death of Diogo Jota, whom he brought in while in charge, and the effect for the team. The Portugal international lost his life in a car crash alongside his brother recently.
âWho can fill the void of a person like him? This isn't just regarding his footballing ability, it's his character. I struggle to conceive the dressing room absent his presence. I still cannot speak properly regarding this. It was an incredible shock for his teammates as well. No one within the club would cite it as an excuse but it is the situation. Being in that space which he filled completely. Coping with it individually is challenging. Impossible.â
