LBJ's Historic Scoring Run Concludes, But Los Angeles Pull Off Win Against Toronto.

LeBron James was aware his incredible run of putting up 10+ points was at risk. In that crucial moment, though, he wasn't bothered.

The right decision involved passing the ball – and he executed. Following that play, the legendary streak finished.

LeBron's unprecedented run of 1,297 consecutive NBA regular season games with 10+ points was snapped on Thursday night, when the league's career points king had only eight total points in the Los Angeles Lakers' 123-120 triumph versus the Toronto Raptors. He delivered the clutch helper, feeding Rui Hachimura to hit a triple as time expired.

“Nothing,” James said when asked about the streak ending. “We won.”

A Selfless Play Seals Victory

James could have tried to secure the game – and preserved the streak – with the last shot, yet he opted to dish the ball to Rui in the left corner. Hachimura made the shot, with LeBron raised his arms immediately.

“Just playing basketball the right way. You always make the correct play,” James remarked. That is how I operate. That is the way I was instructed to play. That's what I've done for two decades.”

He is very conscious of how many points he has at all times,” stated Lakers coach JJ Redick. He acted like he’s done so many times.”

The Streak's Closing Chapter

James re-entered the contest for the final time at 5:23 remaining, the outcome and the streak up for grabs. At that stage, he had only six points on 3-of-15 shooting then.

He scored at 1:46 left to tie the game then missed a mid-range jumper at one minute to go which could have pushed him into double figures.

He didn’t take a subsequent shot – even though he had a chance. A teammate found him in the waning seconds, however, James opted to make the pass instead of shooting.

“The basketball gods, if you do it the right way, they will repay you,” Redick added.

The History of a Monumental Run

This incredible run began back in January 2007. It was, by far the greatest streak of its kind the league has ever seen: Michael Jordan had 866 consecutive games with 10+ points, Kareem recorded 787 such games, and The Mailman had the fourth-longest run of 575 games.

He is such a team-oriented player,” remarked Lakers center a fellow Laker.

He focuses on playing the sport. He could have shot but due to who he is on the court and his character as an individual, he made the pass, dished to Hachimura and we won the game.”

Getting to ten points had long been an afterthought well before the final period. Over the course of the record, he had attained the 10-point mark by the beginning of the final quarter on the vast majority of occasions prior to Thursday.

However, two of those rare games below ten points through three quarters had occurred in the last week: He recorded nine going into the fourth versus the Mavericks on 28 November, then had six points before the fourth quarter versus the Suns earlier in the week.

LeBron was able to keep the streak alive against the Suns. In the following contest, it concluded – but he still rejoiced regardless.

“I always just make the best play. That is instinctive, win, lose or draw,” James declared. When you make the smart play, the game gods consistently giving back to me.”
