The nail-biting 11-inning contest where the Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a combined 51M spectators in the United States, Canada, and Japanese markets. MLB stated this represents the highest-rated World Series Game 7 after the 1991 edition contest between the Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s epic game secured over 27 million viewers on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second highest-rated program of the previous week.

It additionally stands as the most-watched World Series matchup since the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07M. This represents a sixteen percent improvement compared to the last Game 7 between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 ranked 4th, the fourth game was seventh, Game 5 was 8th, and Game 3 finished in 13th place.

Global Audience Figures

In the Canadian market, the climactic game averaged 11.6 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the most-watched English program in Canada since the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest began at 9 PM in the local time zone, it averaged 12 million viewers. This followed last Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series MVP Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – recorded 13.1M viewers, making it the most-watched World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Overall Totals and Trends

The entire seven-game series drew 15.71M viewers on the Fox network, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the first time since 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has seen viewership increases for two consecutive seasons.

Counting the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the total American viewership was 16.1M. The total Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels drew 8.09 million viewers, an 8% increase compared to the previous year and Fox’s strongest playoff ratings after the 2017 season.

MLB stated that the World Series was televised in over 200 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 various languages.
