Cars in German City Found Smeared with Swastikas in Human Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Authorities stated they were notified by a man who noticed a automobile in Hanau smeared with reddish liquid

Roughly 50 automobiles have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a release.

Police say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.

The liquid had been applied in the form of a swastika, they added.

Law enforcement then discovered many other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement say early analysis show the liquid was most likely blood from a person.

"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; officials are presently not aware of any injuries in association with the event," they stated.

Municipal representatives said they were working "to solve the case" and have appealed to the community for information.

An important political figure stated the incident rendered him speechless and had to be resolved quickly.

"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he stated on social media, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a gunman targeting people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
