A campaign is aiming to propel a Palestinian lullaby to the peak of the festive singles chart. The project seeks to provide aid to Gaza's residents while also spotlighting Palestinian artistic heritage.
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a moment to support Palestinians this festive season. He remarked the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“It would be fantastic if that happened, yes,” he said. “I’m not gonna be completely disheartened if it doesn't manage to, festive releases are a unique phenomenon.”
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the adaptation of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's resilient spirit.
“The song holds a profound significance for a lot of people,” Barghouti explained. “The message is that I would rather die in dignity than live a life without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we want to live a respectful existence that we deserve as Palestinians.”
The single was laid down in the wake of a solidarity show held in late summer. Originally intended to be performed and recorded live, the rendition was omitted from the lengthy event due to time constraints.
The impressive roster of performers featured on Lullaby includes a group of prominent voices from the scene. All were part of the September show, which successfully generated a substantial amount for humanitarian aid.
Lullaby was produced by a group of producers and composers. The song showcases a combination of the heritage language with contemporary English verses.
The team running the campaign have emphasized that their objective is to collect the highest amount for a charitable pot. These resources will be distributed to projects in Palestine through an non-profit partner.
“We haven't set a rigid aim,” a spokesperson said. “We will pursue the maximum achievable. Naturally, the higher the total, the greater the impact. All proceeds are directed out to those in need in Gaza.”
The context in the area was described as its profound destruction, with a overwhelming percentage of buildings said to be in ruins or severely impacted.
“Given that reality, a couple of million won't make that much difference. But I think what truly matters is above all making this cause better known and showing the human dimension of the story.”
The track is launching this Friday. Additionally, a video of the solidarity show will be made available for streaming on a major video platform from later in the month.
