The British designer Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect responsible for many legendary styles worn by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has sadly died at 80 years old.

He was celebrated for his architectural shapes and theatrical styles, including the light-hued ensembles that became famous from rock band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "the song Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."

His passing follows shortly after he presented his most recent collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. The performer Lily Allen walked in a dress evoking the famous black velvet "revenge dress" once worn by Princess Diana.

A Pioneering Career

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price moved to London during the sixties to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at the company Stirling Copper and was responsible for the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger famously wore during The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show opened with outfits on the famed model Jerry Hall, who later wore the bridal gown Price designed for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A long-time collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price created the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to fuse elements of men's and women's fashion along with his masterful technique in designing form-fitting garments made him a "one-of-a-kind talent," according to the UK's fashion authority.

By the 1990s, he began working on outfits for Camilla, now Queen Consort, which included various looks for her US tour following her marriage.

Following a profession lasting half a century, Price staged what would be his last show in London just last month in partnership with the label 16Arlington.

  • Defined Shapes: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Performative Style: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

The fashion world says farewell to a authentic original whose impact on fashion and music remains profoundly felt.
